Frequently Asked Questions

License Renewal

I need to renew my real estate license. What is currently required?

  1. 24 hours of continuing education credit;
  2. A GREC Lawful Presence Verification form available on the GREC website, www.grec.state.ga.us. This should be submitted (faxed, e-mailed, mailed, or taken in person) to the GREC at least 5 days in advance of your license renewal;
  3. Renewal fee of $125; If you renew by using the GREC online license renewal system at www.grec.state.ga.us, you will receive a $25.00 discount.

The Georgia Institute of Real Estate offers an extensive library of online courses available through the website, www.LearningRealEstate.com. Additionally, many residential and commercial continuing education classes are offered every month at The Atlanta REALTORS® Center.

What if I don't provide the Lawful Presence Verification form?

If your license is due for renewal and you do not submit this form, your license will lapse.

When do I renew my real estate license?

Real estate licenses are renewed every four years, due by the last day of the month of your birthday in the year indicated on your pocket card. You may renew at any time up to four months before the last day of the month of your birthday.

I will not have completed my continuing education hours in time for renewal. Can I get an extension on the renewal due date?

No. Your license will lapse on the first day of the month following the renewal due date and you may not work as a licensee until you have completed the required continuing education. If you have not completed your continuing education, you can still pay your renewal fee and have your license placed on inactive status until you complete the education. This can save you the expense of paying reinstatement fees.
